M1949 |
Rod bayonet that stows in forestock of the 7.5 mm. Syrian-Contract MAS Model 1949 Self-Loading Rifle. This bayonet is identical to the French M1936.
Approximately 6,000 Syrian contract rifles were manufactured in France by Manufacture D'Armes St. Etienne (MAS). This example was made in 1953. M1949 rifles made for the French Army had no provision for a bayonet (an oversight which was remedied with the M1949/56 version). The M1949 rifle is still being used by rebel fighters in the Syrian Civil War, as shown in this video shot in 2014 of fighting in Tripoli Lebanon. |
